Laksha Deepotsava – Hundered Thousand Lamps

Every year, In the month of January on Makara Sankranthi, the day marks the transition of the Sun into Makar Rasi (Capricorn) on its celestial path. Traditionally, this has been also one of many harvest days in India. Locally, in the temple town of Sri Rangapatna, the devotees take the opportunity to offer 100,000 lamps to the presiding deity of Sri Ranganatha. Thus, offering their gratitude in the best possible way.
