Manapad Classic – 2015
The first edition of the National level Adventure Water Sports event titled, “Manapad Classic – Sail & Surf Festival”, was held between 9th to 11th January, 2015 at Manapad village, Tuticorin district in Tamilnadu. This was a unique event and a first of its kind in India wherein four major Adventure Water Sport events, namely Sailing, Kite Boarding, Kayaking & Stand Up Paddle were held simultaneously.

The athletes composed of both male and female participants from Tamilnadu, Goa, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Maharashtra and many other states. Apart from this, there was also team participation from the Indian Coast Guard and the Tamilnadu Police’s Coastal Security Group.
“MANAPAD CLASSIC 2015”, was spearheaded by “Manapad Surf Resort” with the support and guidance of an expert committee comprising leading adventure sports outfits like Quest Expeditions, Aqua Outback, Covelong Point Surfing, Kiteboarding Federation of India, Surfing Federation of India and Tamilnadu Sailing Association. It was indeed an uphill task to bring together all these key players to host a combined event of this magnitude at a venue that is almost at the southern tip of India.

Couple of international kite surfers put on a free expression session which enthralled the local crowd and Tamilnadu Torurism officials who were left mesmerised. Manapad has huge potential to develop as an active water sport destination in Tamil Nadu.

Open ocean Kayak race was a fantastic battle of paddlers who had to fight currents, winds and fellow competitors. The course was very challenging and it became tougher and tougher as the event progressed.
Kayaker is seen running to the finish line. The athletes found the racing event conditions quite challenging and it did test their skill and endurance at the highest level.
Tamil Nadu Sailing Association held Optimist class sailing race which was a fantastic success with 20 knots wind throughout the day.
Women SUP final race in progress with a huge crowd assembled to cheer the girls from Karnataka & Goa who put on a stellar show.
Mr. Arun Vasu, an avid windsurfer put on a solo wind surfing exhibition displaying some amazing skills throughout the event. He also spent considerable amount of time teaching a lot of ineterested individuals.
Local school kids from Manapad joined the festival performing some acrobatic stunts and gymnastics on the beach.
